Count Down to World Card Making Day...and a giveaway!

Did you know that World Card Making Day (WCMD) is less than a week away? That’s right; there’s a day dedicated to making cards that is celebrated the world over on the first Saturday in October. Cool, eh?

This particular holiday is near and dear to my heart. You see, last year I, along with the rest of the Paper Crafts magazine team, busted my hump to make this day happen. (PC founded the day, so there was a lot of work to do to spread the word.) As most of you know, I’m now an editor with Simple Scrapbooks magazine (sister pub to PC), which means I haven’t been involved with the WCMD work this year. I can’t lie; this has been a slight relief – it was A LOT of work last year – but I have to admit that there’s a part of me that misses that involvement.

No worries. I may not be involved as a PC editor, but I’m definitely still celebrating as a card maker. In honor of WCMD 08, I’m going to post a new blog every day this week, complete with card-making tips, giveaways, project ideas, and more. Please check back; I'm giving away card candy with every post. Yum!

Let the countdown to WCMD begin with the first prize...

Win this fantastic Technique Tuesday stamp set, perfect for making card sentiments! Simply leave a comment on this post between now and this Friday, October 3, stating your favorite thing about cards:

Maybe it’s the feeling you get when you receive a card;
Perhaps it's the happiness that comes from giving a card to someone you care about;
Could be the creative inspiration you get from walking down the greeting-card aisle at Target;
Or is it the joy you find in making your own paper pleasure?

From the comments received, I’ll randomly select a winner to receive this clear stamp set. I’ll list the winner on my blog this Saturday, WCMD! I can’t wait to read your responses!

Megan

I just love making cards. When I send them out to my friends and family and I get that phone call saying they got the card and that they love it, it makes me feel so happy that soemthing I made brought a tiny bit of sunshine into someone's day.
Can't wait for Saturday and a huge cardmaking marathon!

I love making cards, but I can't seem to part with them!

I love just being able to sit down and get SOMETHING done in my day start to finish....with the three kiddies getting to the "cutting and pasting and stamping" age I love being able to do something fun WITH THEM...and since I do this as a profession now, I have to admit, I loved it when my son said to me the other day "Mommy I love you..." I said "awww I love you too!" and he continued "I love you because you work...not all Mommies stamp for work to save money for a boat for Daddy!" LOL That makes all the hours holed up in my studio lately worth it...every late night...totally worth it...(esp. since our dream boat just came to live in the back yard last week!!!)

Because the person who receives the card knows I was thinking of THEM ~ and thinking ENOUGH of them to make a card personalized for them!

Besides - what the heck else am I gonna do with all my schtuff? *wink*

It is the happiness that comes from giving a card I've made to someone I care about that motivates me to learn more about paper craft and specifically card making.

There are many reasons why I love making cards; I love making pretty things that I can give away to people who will appreciate them; I love just playing with paper and ribbon and buttons and bling and all that fun stuff; and I love the instant gratification! You can make a card in a short time if you want, or take longer and really make it special. But I guess the main reason I love making cards is having a friend call me so excited because the card I sent was just right for that moment in their life. That makes me feel pretty good! Thanks! My favorite thing about cards is having someone tell me that receiving one I sent made their day ... it's the best feeling in the world. Thanks for the chance to win.

I just love the feeling when I'm all done and looking at the finished products and knowing the person who the card is going to will love it just as much. Most everyone tells me that they save all the cards I send them. Jackie

My favourite thing about cards is making them, and thinking about the person for whom I'm making a particular card.

I love to make cards and send them to friends and family. Handmade cards are so much more appreciated. Love exchanging cards at Stamp Camp, seeing everyone's great ideas and having a little piece of them.

I love making cards for people! I feel like I'm giving part of myself when I make cards that fit the person who is getting it and that makes me happy!

My favorite thing is that they are a small canvas to work with...so I feel like accomplished something!

my favorite thing about cards in keeping in touch with friends and family members. I recently found out that our neighbor has been saving all the birthday cards i've been sending their children over the years!

I love to give or receive cards. Giving handmade cards is just the best when you get told how awesome your card was. Getting a card is sweet as it means someone was thinkg of yu :-)

Definitely for me it's receiving card! There is something so awesome about knowing someone was thinking of you. :) Thanks for the chance!

The best thing about making cards is the "Instant Gratification"! It's a fun, but quick creative outlet. You can't always expect "noncrafters" to appreciate the work that goes into that little card. You have to do it for your own personal pleasure!
